King's Day was first celebrated in 1885 as Princess's Day, to celebrate the birth of Princess Wilhelmina, the daughter of King William III. The holiday was moved to Queen's Day after Queen Juliana's accession to the throne in 1948. In 2013, the holiday was renamed King's Day after the accession of King Willem-Alexander.
